How to Mend Your Range Simple

You have crushed and pureed. You have whipped and whisked. You have blanched and stirred. Now it is time to gently cook your artwork on your usual electric stove. You turn on the stove and nothing heats up. Learning some basic repairs for an electric stove that you can take care of on your own can potentially save you significant time and expense.

Ensure there is Electricity for Your Stove-top

An electric stove won’t work if it lacks juice. The evident inquiry that that a person should consider is if your electric stove-top is actually plugged in to an outlet. If it is, ensure your circuit breaker (or fuse) is OK. By chance you need to change a fuse. If everything is well up to now, confirm the current of the plug utilizing a current checking device like a voltage tester. If you don’t have these available, plugging a portable radio or something into the outlet should at least see if the electricity is flowing.

Verify the Heating Elements

Confirm that your range is not plugged in. Take a look at the heating coil of the burner that is is suspect. If you can see that the heating coil is visibly damaged, buy a new one and change it out. If the heating coil looks OK, put it into a running position and switch the stove back on. If the element still will not heat, buy a replacement and swap it out.

During the time you are looking around in your range, again with the electricity unplugged, check the plug-in terminals. If you notice any corrosion, remove it through fine sandpaper or other fine abrasive material. Avoid steel wool, as the fine filings can get jammed in the terminals and cause an electrical short when you turn the power back on.

If the heating element operated in the operational burner, you have a unique problem. Make sure you unplug the stove again. Monitor the heating element burner receptacles wires to their running position terminals. Test the wires on a multimeter set to RX1. If the holder fails, you will need to remove the holder and splice a new receptacle in its spot.

Extension Cords

Avoid the use of extension cords for your stove in all circumstances.

Always Be Safe

Electricity can be dangerous, especially for one who does not have a whole lot of experience with electrical repairs. If you have any second thoughts at all about checking your oven by yourself, ask somebody who has more experience to come over and walk you with the repair.

If all else fails, time to call in a qualified repairman.
